General
Situated on a 20,000ha conservancy within the Hainaveld, along the northern boundary with the Central
Kalahari, this lodge is pleasantly situated overlooking a small waterhole which attracts many animals including Lions
which are frequently heard and seen here. Access to the lodge is via Kuke corner, 60km away, or Maun - 120km on a fairly
good dirt road (2.5hrs) - although an airstrip is under construction.
What to see and do
Dinaka Safari Lodge was established in 2010 and is family run, offering a personal touch to your stay in the Kalahari.
Game Drives
Explore and learn as your guide shares his intimate knowledge of this picturesque landscape. As with most lodges morning
and late afternoon / evening drives are offered although these are flexible depending on your schedule.
Night Drives
The afternoon drive usually continues until after sunset offering you the opportunity to see animals such as Caracal, Aardvark,
Aardwolf and African Wild Cat with the aid of a spotlight.
Bush Walks
Explore the Kalahari on foot learning the survival techniques of the animals, birds and plants in this harsh environment.
Wildlife
The habitat here is a mixture of Kalahari scrub with areas of taller trees which creates a picturesque landscape that is home to a wide
variety of antelope such as Wildebeest, Hartebeest, Kudu, Springbok and Gemsbok. Predators are frequently seen with Lions
common in the area and frequently heard from the lodge. Leopard too are regularly encountered whilst Cheetah,
Honey Badger, Brown Hyena and Bat-eared Fox also occur.
During the dry, winter months the waterholes attract herds of antelope which in turn attracts predators. There is a lookout
hide, complete with toilet facilities, overlooking a large waterhole where you can watch animals coming down to drink, day
or night!
Despite the arid environment birding here is rewarding especially for Kalahari specials such as Crimson-breasted Shrike,
Swallow-tailed Bee-eaters and White-browed Scrub-robin. Nocturnal birds including Barn Owl, Pearl-spotted Owlet and Spotted
Thick-knee can be seen on night drives in the area.
Accommodation
Built overlooking a small waterhole, the main lodge area features a large lounge, bar and dining area with a small plunge pool.
The waterhole can be a hive of activity during the winter as various antelope and even the occasional lion come to slake
their thirst.
The accommodation here consists of well furnished, en-suite, bedded tents which are built on stilts each with its own deck.
Although the tents are all close to the main lodge they have a good cover of dense bush between them which gives privacy.
