Tuli Wilderness Trails is located in the Tuli block area of Botswana within the Northern Tuli Game Reserve. As its name suggests the
lodge is best known for its professionally guided walking safaris which take you from the luxury tented camp in the riverine forest of the Limpopo
to the rustic bush camp on the open plains of this reserve as well as utilising a fly camp which is moved depending on game movements.
What to see and do
A range of activities are offered from 4 day walking trails to guided game drives and night drives. As this is a private reserve
no self-drive game drives are allowed however the guided activities are flexible and will be arranged to suit each individual client's requests.
The Tuli block offers good game viewing combined with fantastic scenery and the reserve offers a wide range of habitat from riverine forest to open
savannah which supports a good variety of animals.
The guided walking trails allow you the opportunity to get up close and personal to Botswana's wilderness with the guides introducing you to all
the sights and sounds of the savannah. A trip up to Eagle's rock on one of the koppies gives you a wonderful view over the surrounding bushveld
whilst the seasonal dam affords wonderful sunsets to round off each day.
Wildlife
Animals
The variety of habitat in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve means you get to see a wide range of animals and birds with the Limpopo River and surrounding
forest, near Musth Camp, attracting animals during the dry season. Elephant are frequently encountered - the reserve boasts the largest Elephant
herd on private land - whilst lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena also occur on the reserve. The rocky outcrops are home to Klipspringer (right) and Dassies
whilst the open plains provide suitable habitat for Jackal as well as plains game such as Zebra, Eland and wildebeest.
 Birdlife
The Limpopo River along the southern boundary provides habitat for numerous riverine birds such as barbets, cuckoos, bush shrikes, robin-chats,
woodpeckers and kingfishers whilst the rocky outcrops are home to helmetshrikes and chats. The seasonal dam and marsh attract a variety of waterbirds
from ducks to waders and storks.
With such a variety of habitats the birdlife is prolific especially in the beautiful riverine forest along the Limpopo and Motloutse Rivers
and around Musth camp. Pel's Fishing Owl is one of the specials to look out for along the forested banks of the Limpopo.
Accommodation
Accommodation is on a self-catering basis although meals can be provided so long as they are arranged in advance. The trails themselves are fully
catered with breakfast, tea and dinner as well as snacks provided each day.
Musth Camp is located near the Limpopo River and accommodation is in en-suite safari tents with a fully serviced kitchen
provided as well as a thatched lounge area (right). There is an outside decked dining area overlooking a small waterhole which allows you to relax and wach animals and birds attracted to the
water. The surrounding forest is habitat to numerous birds whilst warthog, baboon, impala, duiker and elephant are frequent visitors to the waterhole.
Mohave camp (left) is situated in the centre of the reserve near the open plains
and along the seasonal Mohave river. This rustic camp allows you to get close to nature and comprises wood huts, an equipped kitchen and separate
ablutions. The camp is fully serviced with an attendant in residence at all times. Lions are frequently heard and seen in the camp and elephants
sometimes wander through which only adds to the experience!
