THAMALAKANE RIVER LODGE

General

Well situated 7km north of Maun, along the Thamalakane River, making it the perfect stop-over on the way to the northern Game Reserves of Botswana. This lodge has all of the benefits of being near a town (local amenities, cellphone reception, electricity, internet access!) whilst also offering the tranquillity and relaxation that comes from being 'in the bush'.

What to see and do

Whether you are in your chalet or lounging by the swimming pool, you have unspoilt views of the Thamalakane River which, when in flood, attracts a good African Pygmy-Goose - Thamalakane River Lodge number of waterbirds such as Greyheaded Gull, African Darter and White Pelican along with a variety of Ducks and Herons as well as the unmistakeable African Fish Eagle. The Riverine woodland along the river is home to, among others, African Green Pigeon, Golden Weaver and Hartlaub's Babbler as well as Barn Owl, Pearlspotted Owlet and African Scops-Owl which can be heard calling at night.

Hippos frequently come out of the river to graze in front of the Chalets so care should be taken walking back to your chalet at night! During the day you will be serenaded by the resident Tree Squirrels - keep an eye out for them in the restaurant!
